My Iris Holds

a midnight dance
a butterfly conjured
at dusk, foreshadows
aflutter, toads
teasing you

with a lick
of their skin,
a ballroom dress
swishing in a cell,
a body tilting
towards the moon.

Sarah Mayo is a South Wales based poet.
